Beton ciré is the way to give your interior a sleek, modern look. But in the European and Dutch market there are now countless suppliers, varying prices and systems of varying quality. How do you know which microcement system is really good for your project? And what should you pay attention to to prevent problems such as cracks, stains and wear? In this blog we share the most important do's and don'ts for the best result.
✅Do: Use at least three layers of Microcement
One of the keys to a durable Microcement result is applying sufficient layers. Two layers are simply not thick enough to prevent wear and tear. Over time, damage can occur if the Microcement is applied too thinly.
Tip: Always choose a system with at least three layers:
- One or two layers with quartz grain for extra wear resistance
- A waterproof layer with reinforcing mesh for wet areas such as bathrooms
- a high-quality finish for a smooth end result
A good Microcement system therefore consists of at least four layers, and for wet areas even five.
❌ Don't: Use cheap or wrong coating
Not all coatings are suitable for Microcement. An incorrect or cheap coating can cause the surface to not be completely water- or wear-resistant. The result? Stains, cracks and moisture problems.
Tip: Always use a high-quality PU coating specially developed for Microcement. This ensures that the surface remains waterproof and scratch-resistant, even with intensive use.
✅ Do: Choose one complete system
Combining Microcement, primer and coating from different suppliers often causes adhesion problems, colour differences and reduced wear resistance. Materials that are not coordinated with each other can cause the end result to be disappointing or to become damaged more quickly.
Tip: Always work with a complete system from one supplier. This way you can be sure that all materials fit together perfectly and the end result is of high quality. Our manufacturer is the only one in Europe to supply complete systems – from Microcement and primer to PU coating – so that the quality is fully guaranteed.
❌ Don't: Skimp on quality
A cheap Microcement system seems attractive, but if the quality is insufficient, you run the risk of cracks, discolouration or moisture problems. Those few euros per m² extra for a high-quality system will quickly be earned back by the sustainable end result.
Tip: Invest in a high-quality system for a long-lasting beautiful result. Cheap is often expensive!
✅ Do: Make sure you are well prepared
A Microcement project starts with the right preparation. A dirty or poorly prepared surface can cause the Microcement not to adhere properly and to become damaged more quickly.
Tip: Make sure the surface is dry, free of grease and dust before you start. Use a suitable primer to improve adhesion.
❌ Don't: Allow insufficient drying time
Each layer of the Microcement system has a specific drying time. If you work too quickly, problems can arise with the adhesion or the end result.
Tip: Let each layer dry sufficiently according to the instructions before proceeding to the next step. Patience pays off with microcement!
