What is microcement?

Microcement is a popular and modern finish for your home, with which you create an industrial concrete look. It is also called concrete stucco. The product originally comes from France. The word literally means waxed / rubbed concrete and is a plaster mortar based on cement.

Spain is the origin of our microcement. For years we have been working with our manufacturer from Valencia, who, based on our experiences and those of our processors, implements changes and innovations in the product.

What is the price of microcement?

There are big price differences in the market when it comes to microcement products. We offer a fair price, for a complete microcement package with the best quality microcement. So no worries about missing items, poor quality, or expensive purchase. Prices for microcement that we see in the market:

  • Product prices vary from €19-€50 per m². Pay attention to whether you are buying a complete package. For example, many suppliers do not include the water-repellent coating or the primer. In such a case, these must be ordered separately.

Want to have microcement applied?

The application can feel 'pricey' due to the number of steps. For each step (depending on the type of microcement this can go up to 9 or 10 steps), the processor must come by separately.

  • Indication: €100-€140 per m² for a smaller surface, a lower price for more square meters. Contact us for the possibilities!

Are there different types of microcement?

You will find microcement in many forms on the market. 4 important elements:

  1. Quality: There is a big difference in the quality of different products. The only way to find out is to test and use products that have proven themselves. As mentioned, we guarantee a rock-solid product.
  2. The number of layers of microcement: the number of layers of microcement determines the strength of the final product. We recommend 2 layers for a decorative application, for example 4 layers of microcement for a bathroom.
  3. Powder or paste form: microcement can be supplied in powder form or in a paste. The powder must be mixed with water, after which it also becomes a paste. We only offer ready-to-use microcement. The difference is in principle the ease of a ready-to-use paste versus powder that still has to be mixed (and weighed out yourself).
  4. Types of microcement: there are different types of microcement for different applications. The most common types are the grueso (base layer) and the fino (finish layer). 2 layers of each type are applied in a bathroom for example.

Ultimately, it is most important that you have the right products for the substrate and the application! Check out our packages to find out more about this.

5
The most important microcement tips in a row
  • Take your time with your project. Drying microcement takes quite some time.
  • Use a complete package from one supplier to avoid application and adhesion problems.
  • Proper preparation of the substrate is essential; handle this well to avoid cracks!
  • A microcement trowel or spatula is essential for the correct processing of the microcement!
  • Microcement is not a normal plaster, so never use water when making glaze!
  • Wait with placing objects on the microcement. The water-resistant coating must dry properly first!

Video tutorial

Watch the video below to see how you can apply microcement to your countertop, furniture, outdoor bench or table!

Step-by-step plan

Check out the slider below to see how you can apply microcement to your countertop, furniture, outdoor bench or table with our package!

Step 1: Primer

After removing dust from the surface, the primer can be applied as the first step

Step 2 & 3: microcement

After the primer, the base coat is applied (without pigment). Then you mix the pigment with the microcement finish layer and then apply it in two layers with the flexible microcement trowel.

In between: sanding

After each layer you can sand the microcement to remove any irregularities. The tighter you apply, the less you sand!

Step 4 & 5: Presealer and coating

After the microcement, apply the presealer with a sponge as preparation for the coating. Then the PU Coating is applied in 2 layers. Note: for an outdoor project, apply an extra layer of outdoor coating between the presealer and the PU Coating. You can easily order this.
