
Substrates
How do you know if a substrate is suitable? This is a difficult but very important question. Below we have made an overview of the most important applications or spaces:
- Countertop or (outdoor) furniture
- Floor
- Wall
- Bathroom

Suitable substrates per package
These substrates are suitable for our Microcement packages for furniture and countertops. Please note: outdoor applications are only suitable for waterproof multiplex.
- Waterproof MDF
Additional action: Chamfering external corners - Waterproof plywood (outdoors only) – Note: finish well with exterior coating
- Melamine faced sheet material
Additional action: Mix primer with silver sand for good adhesion - Solid wood
Additional action: Rough sanding - HPL sheet
Additional action: Rough sanding + Mix primer with silver sand for good adhesion - Natural stone / composite
Additional action: Mix primer with silver sand for good adhesion - Concrete
Additional action: Roughly sand the surface - Existing fixed tiles
Additional: Extra base layer required for an even surface
We have two variants of the Wall Basic package. The Wall Basic package (not waterproof) is suitable for decorative applications. Wall Basic | Waterproof is suitable for the bathroom (because it includes PU Coating). Suitable surfaces:
- Plastered wall (not in the bathroom)
- (green) plasterboard
Additional action: Provide seams with mesh and grease. Also fill screw holes and sand smooth - Plastered wall (cement-bonded)
- Cellular concrete
Additional action: Finish smoothly with cement-based plaster mortar - Gibo
Additional action: Finish smoothly with cement-based plaster mortar - smooth sheet material (including MDF or other smooth sheet material without grain)
Additional action: Are the seams stable? Mesh over seams, fill screw holes.
This package is very suitable for walls with a small chance of movement/in wet areas
- Plastered wall (gypsum-bonded reinforced with mesh)
- Existing fixed tile wall with joints smaller than 3mm
Additional action: Mix primer with silver sand for good adhesion - Wooden waterproof sheet material
- Plastered wall (cement-bonded)
- Cellular concrete
Additional action: Finish smoothly with cement-based plaster mortar - Gibo
Additional action: Finish smoothly with cement-based plaster mortar - Verde gypsum or cement fibre boards
Additional steps: Fill seams with mesh, fill screw holes and sand smooth
Suitable substrates for the Wall Pro package:
- Existing fixed tile wall with joints larger than 3mm
Additional action: Mix primer with silver sand for good adhesion - Surface consisting of different materials
- Wooden sheet material waterproof
- Plastered wall (cement-bonded)
- Cellular concrete
Additional action: Smoothing with cement-based plaster - Gibo
Additional action: Smoothing with cement-based plaster - Verde gypsum/cement fibre boards
Additional steps: Fill seams with mesh, fill screw holes and sand smooth
These substrates are suitable for the Microcement floor package.

Is your surface not listed?
Some surfaces, such as glass, plastic, old layers of paint or loose materials are not immediately suitable. Are you in doubt? Contact us. Often, with the right preparation – such as sanding, reinforcing or priming – it can still be made suitable.
