If there is one thing that gives me an instant holiday feeling, it is a holiday feeling in my own garden. All the shrubs and flowers that bloom, colour and the sun. You really feel like you are somewhere else. Somewhere in Morocco or Ibiza. The only thing that was still missing in our garden is a garden bench in this same atmosphere. How nice is it that you can make this yourself.
In my previous blog about the garden bench I explained how this bench is basically made and what the dimensions are. You can read this again in this blog .
We then got to work with the materials from Beton Cire Nederland. Beton Cire Nederland delivers the materials to your home and an extensive manual that you can download from the site. In addition, you can always contact them for questions you have.
Tip: the color is Avellana!
We started with the first layer. The ridge tape is from the hardware store (step 1) . This is especially recommended if you are working with corners (such as the corners in the seat and back section). This way you have less chance of movement and cracks. Then comes the primer (step 2).
Then you attach the mesh (which is supplied with the levelling mortar) and make everything flat with the levelling mortar (step 3) . You can order this levelling mortar from Beton Cire Nederland if necessary. Ask if this is also the case for your project. Because we have corners and seams in the garden bench, it was advisable to do this. You don't want to regret it later if it starts to freeze or gets very hot, for example.
Then you can start with 1 layer of microcement base, and 1 layer of microcement finish (step 4) . Apply each layer with a flexible trowel and let it dry well. After the layers of microcement you start with the PU coating layers with a roller (step 5, 2x) . It is not difficult. You just have to be patient because each layer has to dry well. If you are going to work outside, also check the temperature and weather conditions.
After a patient job the garden bench is finally finished. And we are so happy with it :)
The atmosphere we had in mind has become completely. What a great place to have drinks here with a nice group and enjoy the sun.
