Applying Kimband to Microcement in wet areas

When you want to apply microcement in a wet room – such as a shower or bathroom – it is important to first finish vulnerable areas waterproof. Think of corners, seams and transitions between walls and floors. For these places you use kimband, which helps prevent leakage and cracking.

How does it work?

Kimband consists of a combination of a fibrous tape and a matching paste. Apply the paste generously and evenly to all weak spots. Then press the kimband firmly into the wet layer. Finish with a second layer of paste to completely enclose the tape. This creates a strong, watertight seal.

When do you use kimband?

Use edge banding before the primer and the mortar with mesh, preferably as the first step in the construction. This ensures that the edge banding is neatly concealed and the substrate is suitable for further finishing with Microcement. It is mainly used in wet areas such as showers, around baths and at wall-floor transitions.

Kimband is easy to use and available at most hardware stores!
